How do i dye only the tips of my hair?

i've been dying my hair for ages. i understand the whole thing about stripping hair and so forth. now my hair is kinda short, its a messy bob, its to my chin, and i want to dye it black, but i also want to tip the hair too. its the only thing i dont know how to do really with dying hair. i've never tried it, so i figure i'll just get the facts straight before doing something stupid.. any suggestions?

if you only want to dye the tips of your hair, i would suggest going to a hair dresser because otherwise it might come out unevenly dyed. (sry..thats the best advice i could give) =)

first u have to have it in a layer (if that is what u mean)! The layer depends on how much dye u want to show! Pin up the top layer and just dye the bottom layer! That is how u do it if you do it at home for about 10 bucks or less, but u could go to a salon and do it for 30! If this is what u mean just email me and I will tell u how to put your hair in layers!

what i suggest is not coloring your hair black because you will regret it .. it is the worst color to get removed from your hair.. if you want to get the effect of a dark hair color... use a dark brown hair color it looks black and as for the tips.. consult your hairstylist she/he will do a better job than doing it yourself

I would go to a color specialist - they know what they are doing. Good luck!

In order to dye or bleach ONLY THE TIPS of your hair, without bleeding any dye/bleach onto the rest of your hair/head, you will need to use squares of aluminum foil and 2 paint brushes. You will also need a bowl of shampoo. One by one, seperate a section of hair and place a square of foil behind it. Next, paint shampoo onto the hair from the scalp out to just before the area you wish to dye. This will keep that area from absorbing any dye by accident. Next, use the 2nd paint brush to apply the bleach or dye to the tips area of the hair. Finally, carefully close up the foil, sealing the hair neatly inside it. Repeat process til your whole head has been done.

Of course you might be safer and happier if you go to a professional salon instead. But since you seem to want to try this at home, I hope this is helpful. --- Good luck!
