Please can someone help me with the conflicting answers i got to my hair colouring question.?

Hi. I have dyed black hair that I have just had cut from waist length to a chin length bob today. I have about an inch of light brown regrowth at the roots. My problem is, I bought a loreal ultra violet black permanent dye but everyone I ask seems to have a different idea of the end result if i put this on my hair.

i went on the loreal paris website and they said that if my hair is coloured black then the ultra violet black will cover evenly.

My friend, who worked in a hair salon, reckons that my regrowth will be bright purple and nothing will happen to the rest of my hair even though I just had about 10 inches cut off.

The girl who just cut my hair said that if i put the ultra violet black on my hair, my roots will be purplish and could also colour the freshly cut ends of my hair purplish too. She thought it would give it a natural sort of look and a lovely shine through the whole of my hair. a blue black dye may be better she said.

Please can anybody help me? thanks in advance x

everyone's hair acts differently. if you say your hair is light brown, then i will have to say that the color may come out "almost" the same.... probably a level or two lighter... when it gradually fades.. your roots that will be covered will be lighter than your "right now black hair".. and then you will have to deal with the new growth in the future.... if you remembered what black dye you had on early, i would probably apply that first to the roots.. rinse and shampoo.... then apply the new color all over... i hope your not the type that goes black to blonde bc that's a pain to do... it's costly and time consuming and results may not be gauranteed.

do a strand test on the side of your hair underneath the top area where it can be hidden.....

good luck

i agree, dont put violet on as your roots are lighter it will probably turn purple, try just a plain black dye.

Don't put the ultra violet in........trust me I am speaking from experience!!! Your hair may turn an awful purple at the roots. I cried.....go with a black dye!

I used that Loreal product when my hair was black. My roots were purple and the rest of my hair was just the same colour as before.

In the end I just waited for my hair colour to fade, then after applying the violet black, it looked fine.

=)

All hair does colour differently but I don't see how the ultra-violet black will cover regrowth and the rest of your hair evenly. I would suggest normal black only - 15 minutes on your regrowth then a further 5 minutes whilst it is applied to the rest of your hair - 'freshening up' your long hair and blending in the re-growth.
